So last time I blogged I was writing about how to deal with heat waves, well typical England means I’m now thinking about rainy days. We’ve had a fair few recently and although lots of us and our pups will brave the rain, it’s pretty helpful to know how to entertain then when it’s torrential all day. So, here’s a few tips, tricks and insights into our rainy-day activities.

1.    Cuddles ++++

 Rainy days immediately mean excessive cuddles. It may be when you know the early morning walk isn’t going to happen and a long lie in with spooning and belly rubbing is a must. Or when a movie day calls, it’s amazing how Sully can enjoy a good movie too when he’s cuddled up on the sofa.

2.       Indoor games

 Whether it be hallway fetch, tug of war or blowing bubbles there’s many games that both you and your pup can find fun and energy seeping. None of these you need loads of room and shouldn’t result in damaged household objects – I take no blame if they do though.

 3.     Mental stimulation

 There are so many mentally stimulating toys out there. Snuffle mats, treat dispensers and Kongs to name a few. But no worries if you don’t want to spend your wages on branded products. Why not just grab a tea towel or 2, then roll and tie filled with treats. Effective, fun and free!!

4. Baking treats

If you fancy making a bit of mess why not bond over some baking. There’s loads of recipes or books to give you inspiration. However, I wouldn’t recommend tasting as you go.

5.     Training

Finally, remember that a rainy day is a great opportunity to remind us to do some of that all-important training. Sully and I love practicing wait whilst hiding treats. Gets his nose working which is a bonus. Nobody needs space to practice paw!

Rainy days don’t have to be gloomy. When you’ve got a dog (and a little imagination), they become a reason to slow down, cozy up, and enjoy their company. Whether it’s indoor games, baking projects, or marathon cuddles, I treasure these wet-weather days almost as much as a sunny hike.

Because any day with your dog is a good day.

Stay dry,
Love Sully and The Pet Obsessor
